At Prestwood House and Prestwood Coach House we provide specialist palliative care to those that are close to the end of their life, those with advanced incurable conditions or clients who fall ill during residency at Prestwood. Our person-centered care ensures that all residents approaching the end of their life live as well as possible during their last moments with us and die with dignity, in a which they have chosen.
Our carers are trained to provide palliative care in ways that make the client as comfortable as possible by controlling pain and other distressing symptoms, while providing psychological, social and spiritual support for them, their family or carers. We make sure we take this holistic approach, dealing with the “whole person” rather than just one aspect of care.
End of life care may be in place for a few days or may span months or years. We work closely with local healthcare professionals in order to provide the specialist care and services at the right levels and when they are needed.
Whilst we may be able to accept those with a dementia diagnosis, subject to the assessment and suitability criteria, we are unable to accept anyone whose dementia care is their primary need. This is, in part, due to our open-door policy, as we like to give our residents and visitors the freedom to come and go as they please, we don’t feel this would be suitable for an advanced dementia client. Our admission criteria is intended to ensure we adequately meet the needs of each individual and if we feel we are unable to accept any individual, or that their admission would adversely affect the other residents, we will advise accordingly.
Our fees include full personal and nursing care and vary according to the specific accommodation chosen; we accept privately-funded clients and clients who are partly or fully funded by Social Services.
